Thermo Fisher Scientific to increase investment in Lithuania

Thermo Fisher Scientific is planning to invest 70 million litas (EUR 20.3m) in expanding its Vilnius unit and to move production from Germany to Lithuania, the daily Lietuvos Rytas reports.

The US company would not comment until a final decision is made.

Thermo Fisher Scientific ago opened its Molecular Biology Center of Excellence in Vilnius about six months, thus expanding its business in Lithuania following the 2010 acquisition of the Vilnius-based biotechnology company Fermentas.

The US company invested 34 million litas in the center, with another 7.1 million litas coming from EU funds.
