"The role and significance of your country in promoting safe, stable and prosperous Europe place enormous responsibility on your shoulders. May the people of Germany and international partners strongly support you in discharging the duties of your position," Grybauskaitė wrote in her message of congratulations to the German president-elect.
Emphasizing the aspiration to strengthen close relationship between Lithuania and Germany, the Lithuanian president invited the newly-elected German leader to come to Lithuania for a bilateral visit at a time convenient to him.
In a congratulatory message to the Moldovan president-elect, Grybauskaitė underlined that Lithuania had always supported and would continue to support Moldova's efforts to implement reforms and to ensure security, stability and prosperity for its citizens.
"I would like to assure you that Lithuania remains fully committed to your country's endeavors towards integration into Europe," the president wrote.
Gauck was elected as Germany's new president on Sunday to replace Christian Wulff who has resigned.
The Moldovan parliament elected Timofti on Friday, thus ending almost three-year spell without a permanent head-of-state.
