"In both cases of Snoras and Ūkio Bankas, we are talking about problems of specific banks. In this case, we see no threat to the whole financial system in the sense that an outflow of deposits from other banks might start. I, therefore, believe it's a fairly local problem we are trying to resolve in the most effective way. Therefore, I definitely see no bigger threats to national security," Vasiliauskas told journalists after the closed-door meeting.
Operations of Ūkio Bankas, hit with financial difficulties, was suspended last week. The Board of the Bank of Lithuania decided on Monday that the bank would be split into "bad" and "good" banks, and the healthy part of the bank would be taken over by Šiaulių Bankas.
