“Belarus earlier imposed restrictions on imports of livestock from all European Union countries, except Lithuania, due to the Schmallenberg virus spread by biting insects. Now they have also imposed restrictions on us. However, Lithuania’s business has not been active here of lately,” Jonas Milius, the head of the Lithuanian State Food and Veterinary Service, told BNS.
“It’s a political issue between the European Commission and Russia, Belarus and other members of the Customs Union. The parties have been trying to reach an agreement on this issue – just how stringent the restrictions on the imports of livestock should be - for some time now,” he added.
