Belarusians interested in EU-funded projects in Lithuania

Belarusian businesses complain about Lithuania's strict visa regime, which hampers their expansion in the neighboring country, and say that they are interested in investing in projects that are financed from EU structural funds, the business daily Verslo Žinios reports.

Experts say that the Lithuanian market is too small for the neighbors and that Russia and Kazakhstan are more favorable countries for their investments and business expansion, according to the daily.

Investment advisors working in Lithuania say that Belarusians cannot expect big returns on their investments in Lithuania, but they get security in exchange for that.

What attract Belarusians to Lithuania are its stable currency and the fact that Vilnius, which is not far from Minsk, is the nearest capital from which they can expand their businesses into other EU countries.

Belarusian investments in Lithuania account for a low percentage of the total foreign direct investments in the country.
