Buyer sees Finasta converting from investment to universal banking

Finasta should convert itself from an investment bank to a universal bank focusing on financing small and medium-sized businesses, says Viktor Sargava, the owner of EurEst Capital, an Estonian company that is planning to buy Finasta.

"Finasta should develop as a truly universal bank that focuses on lending to small and medium-sized businesses. We believe that the market is ready for Finasta's new business direction and that recent developments in the Lithuanian banking sector are opening the way for this," he told the business daily Verslo Žinios.

Sargava said that Finasta's investment unit would continue to operate and would give a competitive advantage.

The detailed makeup of the consortium that has applied to buy Finasta will be revealed as soon as the procedures with the Bank of Lithuania are completed, he said.
