“The commission plans to hold a meeting on Friday where it would decide whether to name Chevron the winner of the shale gas exploration tender,” Mazuronis told BNS late on Monday.
Previously he told BNS that the decision had been postponed as the authorities wanted to find out whether Chevron remained willing to invest in shale gas exploration and production despite the Seimas’ (parliament’s) decision to tighten the regime of shale gas exploration and production.
Prime Minister Algirdas Butkevičius said last week after the meeting with Chevron’s representatives that the US company did not intend to pull out of Lithuania.
Gilbert Ankenbauer, CEO of Chevron Exploration & Production Lietuva, Chevron’s Lithuanian subsidiary, earlier said that the Seimas’ decision to tighten the procedures of shale gas exploration and production might result in Chevron making larger investments and, in addition, the US energy giant might need more time to search for shale resources.
