Common Data Environment for Rail Baltica railway line to be deployed

In order to deploy, implement and maintain Rail Baltica Common Data Environment for building information management system (BIM), RB Rail AS has entered into a contract with one of the leading global providers of software solutions Bentley Systems International Ltd. With this, Rail Baltica global project is going to deploy and set up a cloud-based Common Data Environment (CDE) to be used during the design, construction and operational phase of the railway line. The total amount of the five-year contract is 1.224 million EUR (excluding VAT), that includes software development, implementation and maintenance as well as license fees and training of users. The funding is allocated from the CEF (Connecting Europe Facility) budget.

The contract consists of cloud-based CDE configuration, deployment and setup, test phase and training of users, as well as it encloses an optional CDE extension of the solution’s functionality if that is required for the client. Additionally, the supplier will ensure licensing, support and maintenance of the system for the Rail Baltica global project. It is estimated that at the peak of the Rail Baltica construction activities, the number of daily users of the system will rise up to 370, exchanging and updating the technical project documentation including design models, drawings and other technical information. In addition, the system will meet the highest IT security standards to ensure secure and fast exchange of technical documentation and information for all involved parties.

“Digital Rail Baltica is as important as its physical infrastructure. Using BIM in a complex rail project as Rail Baltica will help ensure effective collaboration between people, processes and technology, helping to minimize rework, delays and unexpected costs”, says Timo Riihimäki, CEO of RB Rail AS. During the operational phase of Rail Baltica, BIM will provide all necessary information to the maintenance companies and infrastructure manager to ensure uninterrupted, safe and cost-effective operations of Rail Baltica.”

In total five companies took part in this tender: Bentley Systems International Ltd; Civilpoint Oy; partnership “GRAITEC s.r.o.- SUDOP BRNO spol. s.r.o - PSS GRAITEC”; ASITE SOLUTIONS Ltd; partnership DCS Finland Oy and Pirkanmaan Mittauspalvelu Oy. Economically most advantageous proposal was submitted by Bentley Systems International Ltd.
