Creditors claim 384 million euros from Lithuania's Ukio Bankas

Creditors of Lithuania's collapsed Ukio Bankas filed 1,550 financial claims worth 1.326 billion litas (EUR 384 mln) in total by the Aug. 7 deadline.

This accounts for 86.8 percent of the total amount of liabilities recorded in the bank's accounts, at 1.568 billion litas. The state-owned Indeliu ir Investiciju Draudimas (Deposit and Investment Insurance) is the largest creditor with around 60.4 percent of all claims, Ukio Bankas' administrator Gintaras Adomonis said.

„The relatively small number of creditors who lodged their claims is due to the majority of claims amounting to several litas or even centas. Perhaps the most numerous group of creditors simply found those losses insignificant,“ Adomonis said.

„The team working at the bank is currently carrying out the mandatory verification of the documents submitted and the validity of the claims, but we can state that an important phase of the bankruptcy procedure is over,“ he said.

The bankruptcy administrator's team had sent invitations to 11,491 creditors to lodge their financial claims.

A court opened bankruptcy proceedings against Ukio Bankas on May 2.
