Sustainability is a key operational direction for the company, and this year it loudly proclaimed it by promising to achieve its set goals. “It is one of the most important initiatives for the company this decade,” says Artūras Michejenko, head of DKV Euro Service Baltikum. According to him, reducing climate pollution and CO2 emissions is a priority for all responsible businesses if they want to survive twenty or more years.
The “Green Mission” is underway at all of the company’s branches internationally. What actions and initiatives are involved in this project?
The campaign has two directions – the company’s own operations and staff and our clients and partners. We invite all our colleagues to choose more sustainable work models and environmentally-friendly lifestyles. Through our example, we seek to inspire our clients and encourage them to make changes and choose solutions that reduce their environmental footprint. The products and tools we create are intended to contribute to pollution reduction initiatives and we invite businesses to create a greener environment together.
In encouraging changes in terms of reducing pollution, you start with yourselves and your staff. What does the package of planned measures look like?
Yes, we will begin by showing more initiative within our own company: we will seek to reduce paper usage, prioritise energy from renewable sources, choosing offices equipped with green and sustainable technologies. We will also invite our staff to dedicate more attention to travel efficiency, choosing to use electric scooters and bicycles during the summer.
You have invited your partners and clients to join the climate pollution reduction initiative. What scale has this campaign reached?
Reducing pollution in the transport sector is not only the responsibility of oil companies, automobile manufacturers and drivers. Being a part of this sector, we ourselves are taking initiative and inviting others to join us in setting and reaching goals together.
The current goal is to reduce CO2 emission intensity by 30% by the year 2030. The community of our partners and clients is comprised of over 250 thousand companies in various countries around the world. Only by uniting our strength can we achieve good results.
We will seek to inspire the company’s clients and partners with good examples. It is a long-term goal around which we will plan our operations priorities and the products we create. We care, so we will not only focus on the internal DKV Mobility processes, but we will also encourage our clients to contribute to reducing climate pollution.
What climate pollution reduction solutions are you strongest in?
We are reinforcing our positions in the environmentally friendly transportation sector. We are expanding our LNG refuelling station network across Europe – currently, DKV Mobility has around 170 refuelling stations, making it the largest LNG network in Europe. In addition, we have more than 130 thousand electrical car charging stations. This greatly contributes to the development of electrically powered transportation. Our products and business solutions are sustainable and oriented towards a long-term outlook. We look to the future responsibly and want to be prepared to satisfy the needs of our future clients.
Another feature of services aimed at business clients is digital tools. What are the trends in this area?
We maintain the philosophy that the digitalisation of tools is one of the conditions for a sustainable future. The tools we create are aimed at facilitating the work of logistics and long-haul transportation companies, these tools have a good reputation and are well-established on the market.
Our products simplify the work of administrative staff and managers while helping drivers save time, optimise routes, and focus on their main job – driving. We have reliable, necessary and quality products such as DKV Maps, which is used for route planning and optimisation, and the DKV App, which is intended for everyday use to help find the nearest refuelling stations and other relevant information for drivers.
What new digital solutions can the long-haul transport sector expect this year?
In the near future, we will continue to strengthen the positions of the toll and road tax solution DKV Box Europe. This payment solution, which we created alongside Toll4Europe, is a stable and excellent product and we are constantly expanding the number of supported countries. We are currently in the testing phase for Italy, while this year the list of countries that support DKV Box Europe will expand to include Hungary, Switzerland, and other countries.
Another new tool we take pride in is DKV Live. It is a mobile assistant for transport companies that combines all supply chains into a single system. This mobile assistant will facilitate work at every step of the supply chain – the tool will help a company expecting cargo track its movement, the company transporting it will be able to monitor the driver’s route in real-time, and see remaining fuel levels and other parameters for the truck.
Last year, this tool was introduced in Germany and recognised with the Telematic Award 2020.
Our clients in Lithuania are also making use of it.
