“It is said that Gazprom has sent its answer this week, supposedly yesterday, but it has not yet been received as of this morning”, the head of the parliamentary Economics Committee told reporters after meeting with Energy Minister Jaroslav Neverovič on Wednesday.
Evelina Butkutė-Lazdauskienė, spokeswoman for Prime Minister Algirdas Butkevičius, told BNS that the government had not yet received Gazprom’s responses to Lithuania’s proposals.
Butkevičius stated on Tuesday that he expected to receive Gazprom’s responses soon and to reach an agreement with the Russian gas giant by mid-October.
Meanwhile, Neverovič, the head of Lithuania’s negotiation team, earlier admitted that Lithuania and Gazprom had not come to any agreement yet.
The Russian gas company declines to comment on the course of the talks with the Lithuanian government, which sent its latest proposals to Gazprom on September 25.
It is likely that the government is not satisfied with a price discount and other conditions put forward by Gazprom.
It is said that the issue of implementation of the EU's Third Energy Package is no longer the subject of discussion at the negotiations with Gazprom. According to unofficial sources, the Russians have realized that this process is irreversible and are now trying to steer the talks in a direction favorable to it.
