The German company pledged to complete all works by August 1, 2014, Klaipėdos Nafta said in a press release.
“The launch of construction of the gas pipeline will mark the last stage of project implementation. We will still have to overcome many legal and technical obstacles. However, we can state today that all key contracts required for the engineering and construction of the essential project components have already been signed. What remains is implementation and supervision,” the press release quoted Rokas Masiulis, Klaipėdos Nafta CEO, as saying.
Despite ongoing litigation over gas pipeline tender procedures, the contract opened the way to launch EPC (Engineering and Procurement Construction) processes immediately and complete the project in due time, he added.
The contract will come into effect once approved by Klaipėdos Nafta’s shareholders on May 24.
The contractor will have until August 2014 to design and build a pipeline of almost 20 kilometers in length, including 3 kilometers under the Curonian Lagoon, from the LNG terminal's jetty to Lietuvos Dujos' (Lithuanian Gas) distribution station in the district of Klaipėda.
It will also have to install gas equipment on the jetty, as well as a gas metering station, telecommunications, and other systems. The pipeline is a key component of the LNG terminal project's infrastructure.
