A draft memorandum mentioned in the media had been sent to the Energy Ministry by Achim Saul, a representative of E.ON Rurhgas and chairman of Lithuania’s natural gas import and distribution company, the government said in a press release.
Saul was not authorized to act on behalf of Gazprom, therefore the draft should not be considered an official document. Therefore, it had not been discussed at the prime minister’s level, the press release said.
“I would like to emphasize once more that there are no behind-the-scene consultations or negotiations with Gazprom. Just as discussed during the meeting with Gazprom’s executives in St. Petersburg, all issues will be tackled by an expert group and not in the shadow of some documents allegedly originating from Russia. It has also been agreed that consultations between Lithuania and the gas concern will take place exclusively within the framework of the Third Energy Package,” the press release quoted Butkevičius as saying.
