Lithuania's government deficit, at 3.2 percent of GDP, was the 12th-biggest in the EU.
Spain posted the highest government deficit, at 10.6 percent, followed by Greece with 10 percent and Ireland with 7.6 percent. Latvia's government deficit came in at 1.2 percent, and Estonia's, at 0.3 percent. Germany was the only EU country to register a government surplus, at 0.2 percent.
Lithuania's government debt last year remained the sixth-lowest in the EU, at 40.7 percent of GDP, the same as that of Latvia. Estonia remained the least indebted EU member state with a government debt of 10.1 percent of GDP.
Fourteen member states had government debt ratios higher than 60 percent of GDP. The highest ratios were recorded in Greece and Italy, at 156.9 percent and 127 percent, respectively.
