The government would consider this proposal next week, he said in an interview to Žinių Radijas on Thursday.
“We discussed this issue on Monday and I think that the Competition Council shall react as soon as possible. We will speak about this problem next week. We believe that the Competition Council should have its say in the first place. They have to monitor those processes continuously, notice the changes and respond to them,” he said.
“We need answers as to why the retail price is not going down although we see that oil is getting cheaper, which means that the retail price should go down as well,” Butkevičius added.
Brent crude on London’s ICE Futures exchange fell by 5.5 percent from early March to early May, to 103.88 US dollars a barrel.
Meanwhile, the price of 95 grade gasoline at Lithuania’s gas stations rose by 1 percent on average in the same period, to 4.75 litas (EUR 1.37) per liter. The pump price of diesel fuel shrank by 1.3 percent on average, to 4.48 litas per liter.
