"The results are really interesting. (March) was probably the liveliest month in the past half-year. What is very interesting is that food product sales registered the sharpest increase. This is difficult to explain. We did have the Easter holidays, but this can hardly explain the 9-percent growth," she told BNS.
Food product retailers last month posted an 8.7-percent year-on-year increase in sales.
"This year we anticipate a further development of retail trade due to higher revenues and higher employment. We expect some growth in retail sales, albeit not very strong," the analyst said.
Lithuania's retail sales, not including car sales and repairs and food and beverage service providers, rose by 2.9 percent in the first three months of this year from a year ago to 6.379 billion litas (EUR 1.85b), not including VAT, the country's statistics office said on Friday.
