"Regain the No. 1 position in the Lithuanian market. This is what I'm here to do - to regain the market leader position once again," Omnitel President Dan Stromberg said during a meeting with journalists on Monday.
Stromberg, who has been with TeliaSonera for more than 20 years, said that he had "a proven track record" of turning companies into profitable and successful businesses.
"And we will do whatever it takes. We will be able to do it, for sure. It is just a matter of time," he said.
Stromberg admitted that the company had made mistakes in the past.
"We made some mistakes. So sorry for those mistakes," he said.
Stromberg said that Omnitel would seek to win back its leading position by using its customer base and offering simple services, good customer service, and the biggest network in the country. For example, the company plans to expand its 4G coverage to half of the Lithuanian territory as soon as next year.
The president also said that Omnitel's prices should be similar to those of its competitors, Bite Lietuva and Tele2.
"We need to have prices on par with our competitors", he said.
Stromberg took over the helm of Omnitel from its long-time president, Antanas Zabulis, last June.
Omnitel, which is 100-percent owned by Sweden's TeliaSonera, posted 230 million litas (EUR 66.7m) in revenues for the first six months of this year, down 6.5 percent year-on-year. The operator had 1.95 million users in late June.
