This provides Lithuania and Turkey with a natural opportunity to strengthen cooperation in transport, logistics and transit sectors," Grybauskaitė said in a press release published by her office.
"The Viking project is an excellent example of how we can link together the regions of the Baltic Sea, the Black Sea, and the Caspian Sea and create more opportunities for growth," she said.
In an effort to strengthen cooperation between the countries, three agreements will be signed, including a memorandum on the Viking shuttle train project and agreements between business associations and national broadcasters, Grybauskaitė says.
Lithuanian Prime Minister Algirdas Butkevičius and the Turkish president discussed bilateral economic relations and further cooperation, as well as Turkey's EU membership negotiations, during their meeting on Thursday, the prime minister's press office said.
Butkevičius said that Turkey's commercial attaché to the Baltic countries, appointed last year, is expected to give fresh impetus to economic cooperation.
Lithuania and Turkey should step up cooperation not only in trade, but also in agriculture, and exchange their best practices and experiences in developing rural tourism, the prime minister believes.
Closer cooperation between Lithuanian and Turkish business associations are expected to help businesses establish their presence in the markets, exchange experience, and develop joint projects.
