Riga court won't open bankruptcy case against Latvia's BMGS

A Riga court will not open bankruptcy proceedings against Latvia's BMGS, the winner of a contract from Lithuania's state-controlled oil product terminal operator Klaipėdos Nafta (Klaipėda Oil) to build a jetty for the country's liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal.

Janis Jaksons, a spokesman for Riga Central District Court, confirmed to BNS that the court on Thursday had terminated the hearing of a lawsuit seeking bankruptcy proceedings against the company.

"The case was dropped, because the plaintiff had withdrawn the suit. Under Latvian laws, if the plaintiff withdraws his or her suit, the court can terminate the case," he said.

BMGS said on Wednesday that, on April 19, it had signed an amicable agreement with 7 Projekts to terminate relations between the companies. BMGS said that the dispute with 7 Projekts had arisen due to low-quality sewage system development and reconstruction work done by the latter company.

BMGS said that it had sufficient funds and was meeting its liabilities as they fall due.

7 Projekts told the court that BMGS owed it 182,404 lats (EUR 260,000).

On March 19, Klaipėdos Nafta and BMGS signed a contract, worth 27.19 million euros not including VAT, for the engineering and construction of a jetty for the LNG terminal in Klaipėda.
