Jūratė Baltrušaitytė, acting CEO of the airport in Lithuania’s second biggest city, confirmed to the daily that she had received an official notification about the transfer of the route.

Meanwhile Andrius Jarzemskis, senior research scientist at the Faculty of Transport Engineering of Vilnius Gediminas Technical University, noted that the country had not been following any aviation strategy. “Now the airports of Vilnius and Kaunas are forced to compete and fight for each route.”

The scientist believes that the airports should pursue closer cooperation and coordinate their strategies.
