According to the daily, officials from Lithuania, Poland, Latvia, and Slovakia are said to be in possession of data showing that the Vilnius-registered company might have evaded paying around 10 million litas (EUR 2.9m) in taxes.
The international probe was complicated and large-scale, Indrė Ščeponienė, deputy director of Large Taxpayer Monitoring and Consulting Department of the State Tax Inspectorate, said.
“The inspection is being carried out in close cooperation with tax administrators from three EU Member States, including Poland, Latvia, and Slovakia,” she told the daily.
Metoil, a subsidiary of fertilizer manufacturer Achema, is engaged in wholesale and retail trade of petroleum, metallurgy, and various chemical products.
Achemos Grupė has filed a complaint with the European Commission over the country's Law on LNG Terminal, which sets the extra tariff component and a requirement for large gas consumers to buy at least 25 percent of their gas from the planned LNG terminal in Klaipėda.
The fertilizer manufacturer says that the extra tariff component alone will cost it around 80 million litas over two years.
