On Tuesday, the Foreign Ministry said it completed the formation of the volunteer team – 80 people were selected from about 500 applicants.

Among the applicants were university and school students along with older people.

Key tasks for volunteers will include assisting the organization of presidency events, meeting of guests at the airport and smooth work at conference centers.

Main selection criteria were command of foreign languages, volunteering experience, and interest in EU matters.

The first 20 volunteers already worked during the launch of the EU Council presidency logo in early May.

Lithuania will take EU Council presidency on July 1.
