"Lithuania is undoubtedly well prepared for EU presidency. I have no doubt about that," he said after meeting with the heads of several committees of the Seimas (Lithuanian parliament).

Moreira said that "work with the East" will be important during Lithuania's presidency.

"For example, on the Eastern Partnership. You are in a very good situation because you are partners, you are partners historically, you have much knowledge about that and can find the right solutions at the right place," he said.

Moreira said that partnership with the East is very important because it involves both trade and politics.

The MEP said that important EU tasks also include relations with the United States and China.

"The most ambitious goal now is to negotiate with the US. The European Commission is thinking about starting talks with China on an investment agreement," he said,

Moreira leads a delegation of members of the International Trade Committee that is visiting Lithuania ahead of the country's EU presidency and is interested in its priorities in the area of EU external trade policy

The delegation is to visit Precizika MET SC, a Lithuanian company specializing in photovoltaic solar cell technologies.
