Leškevičius has been meeting with leaders of the main political groups of the EP in Strasbourg for the last two days, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
"One of the main goals of the Presidency is a smooth legislative process in the European Union, and the European Parliament has an important role in this process. Therefore, the Lithuanian Presidency will seek to ensure partnership as well as constructive and effective cooperation with it. It is especially important as the Lithuanian Presidency will coincide with the end of the EU legislative cycle when the remaining legislative workload remains huge," Leškevičius said in his statement.
According to the ministry, the Lithuanian EU Presidency will have to harmonize interests of all member states and represent the EU Council during talks with the Parliament.
Lithuanian President Dalia Grybauskaitė will present priorities of the Lithuanian Presidency at the EP plenary session in Strasbourg in early July.
