Butkevičius has noted that Lithuania, as the nation holding the European Union (EU) Council presidency, will seek a political consensus among all member-states on Romania's Schengen membership, the government said in a press release.

The European Commission's reports on Romania's achievements in the cooperation and examination mechanism are expected in the end of 2013, i.e., the planned drafting of Council conclusions on Romania's accession to Schengen.
