Vilnius hosts Committee of Regions' events on Eastern Partnership and environment

Vilnius is hosting the Committee of the Regions' four circuit events on Monday and Tuesday that will focus on Eastern Partnership and environmental issues, Lithuania's Ministry of Foreign Affairs announces.

Ramon Luis Valcercel Siso, the committee president, as well as members of the committee are expected to attend the events.

On Monday, a meeting of the Commission for the Environmental, Climate Change and Energy will take place and will touch upon issues related to the space industry policy, green infrastructure, development of natural capital, the European Strategy on Plastic Waste.

Participants of the event will pay a visit to Vilniaus Energija, a company providing heating to Vilnius.

Later in the day, a conference on the implementation of the aspect of sustainable energy of the "Europe 2020" strategy on the local and regional levels will take place at the National Art Gallery in Vilnius.

Three sessions of the meeting will focus on issues related to effective use of resources and the prospects of renewable resources in the regions. The conference will be attended by Lithuanian Minister of Environment Valentinas Mazuronis.

On Tuesday, Vilnius will host the 147th meeting of the Bureau of the Committee of the Regions, to be attended by Prime Minister Algirdas Butkevičius and Deputy Minister of Energy Žydrūnė Juodkienė.

The Committee of the Regions' events will end with a Conference of the Regional and Local Authorities for the Eastern Partnership (CORLEAP), to be attended by Lithuanian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Andrius Krivas and MEP Justas Vincas Paleckis.

The conference will discuss local and regional prospects of the Eastern Partnership, and successful models of territorial cooperation will be introduced during the conference.

The task of the Committee of the Regions is to express local and regional authorities' position on EU legislation. It is an advisory body representing the EU's local and regional authorities. Circuit meetings of the Committee of the Regions are traditionally held in a member state holding the EU presidency.
