Vilnius hotels expect big business boost from Lithuania’s EU Council presidency

Owners of hotels in the center of Vilnius expect to benefit during the six months of Lithuanian EU Council presidency. Most rooms in some of the most expensive hotels have already been booked, the Lietuvos Rytas daily reports.

“The center of Vilnius may not have enough rooms, … but there are other places. I think it’s not a disaster if the hotel is located at a distance of one kilometer from the city center. Moreover, it is difficult to estimate the number of guests since the bookings have not yet been confirmed. We may expect 5,000 guests to come to Vilnius in November whereas there will actually be just 3,000,” Artūras Vainora, general manager at 4-star Artis hotel, told the daily.

Birutė Leimontaitė, marketing and sales manager at 5-star Kempinski hotel, confirmed that the number of bookings was encouraging. “There are many bookings for July. This year looks perfect.”

“I think the occupancy of hotels in Vilnius will be high but there will be enough rooms for all. The first two weeks of September might be somewhat more stressful but it’s usual since Vilnius often hosts some events in September,” Vilija Malinauskaitė, a representative of West Express travel agency, told the daily.
