Our body is in a constant battle against malign bacteria and viruses, however, when the immune system is weakened, we easily get colds or catch various diseases. As such, it is essential to find effective means to ensure our body’s resistance to these intruders. One of them is spirulina.
Spirulina is a cyanobacterium found in blue-green algae biomass. It has fundamentally beneficial elements within it for the human body, such as amino acids, vitamins, minerals, microelements, proteins and so on. All these materials are vitally important for our health.
Spirulina has been used as a means of strengthening the body for quite a long time, however it has one trait, which the human body was unable to overcome. The spirulina cell has a protective membrane and the human digestive tract is unable to overcome it. We either absorb little a very small amount of the nutrients or none at all.
Scientists have thus far tried various means to help humans absorb the beneficial nutrients found in spirulina. For example, there were efforts made to dismantle the membrane, however at the same time, a significant portion of beneficial materials was also destroyed, which made this an unsuitable solution.
Lithuanian scientists have found the necessary means to “free” the beneficial nutrients from the spirulina cell.
“We have also found a way to dismantle the spirulina cell without spoiling the components found within,” one of the invention’s authors, VU Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Cathedral chief researcher Vida Bendikienė says.
A product called “Green Honey” is already in production. It has specially treated green-blue algae with spirulina cells mixed with honey, all “prepared” to yield what benefits the human body. The product has been called “Green Honey” because this biological mass is notable for its unique dark green light. However, what is interesting is that when a UV lamp is shined on this material, it glows in a deep red colour. This is proof that the honey has a decent amount of phycocyanin, a particularly beneficial material for the human body.
This way, the product allows the body to rapidly absorb useful nutrients and improve its resistance to viruses and bacteria.
“If after consuming this product you become nauseous or your mood gets worse, just know that your body is fighting bacteria and viruses and spirulina is working very well,” Simas Didžbalis, the owner of the company Fortivitum, which has contributed to the creation of this product, says.
“We have, so to say, found the key, which “unlocks” the spirulina cells and then the human body can receive everything that is most necessary and easily accessible for it,” V. Bendikienė says, “Meanwhile, when buying spirulina in pill form (the country of origin for the product is also important), people buy “locked cells”, thus the consumption of such a product will have a different effect. Thus, in our case – the door is opened for you to natural nutrient stores gathered by nature.”
The nutrients found in spirulina contain antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and antiviral traits and as of late, scientists have been studying its cancer-fighting traits, thus it is hard to evaluate all the traits of this product fully. What is important is that people could absorb all the beneficial nutrients found in the cell in full and without major losses.
The Lithuanian-invented method dismantles the cell membrane naturally, rather than chemically and this is something no one in the world has achieved so far.
