Some 79 percent of the polled support the reduction of dependence, 19 percent oppose this initiative and 6 percent have no opinion, according to the poll carried out by the public opinion and market researcher Sprinter Tyrimai in May.
Moreover, 70 percent of the respondents favor participation of neighboring countries – Estonia and Latvia – in the regional nuclear facility project. The respondents believe that this will ensure more stringent control of project implementation and improve its quality.
VAE did not specify the percentages of the respondents who chose other answers to this question. BNS could not contact the company’s representatives on Friday.
Lithuania imports some 75 percent of its electricity, mostly from Russia, and is fully dependent on gas supplies by Russia’s Gazprom.
Sprinter Tyrimai polled 1,005 people earlier this month.

Close to 80 percent of Lithuanians believe that the country should reduce energy dependence on one supplier, the latest poll commissioned by Visagino Atominė Elektrinė (Visaginas Nuclear Power Plant, VNP) has shown.
