First World Lithuanian Youth Meeting opening in Prienai

The First World Lithuanian Youth Meeting is officially opening in Prienai district, southern Lithuania, on Friday.

The event was offically opened by Lithuania's President Dalia Grybauskaitė and Prime Minister Andrius Kubilius.

"I hope you make many new friends here, and the event brings many ideas, know-how and projects, new opportunities to make a contribution to Lithuania's future," Grybauskaitė said.

The president added she would always support those who want to identify with and work for Lithuania.

"We are a small nation, therefore, everyone of us have to be ten times as cautious, good, educated and do ten times more than members of large nations," she said.

Kubilius along with ministers of national defense, justice, foreign affairs and education will have a discussion with the youth later on Friday.

Organizers say the event, which kicked off on Thursday and will be closing on Sunday, was expected to attract about 3,000 participants for a series of reports, discussions on business, science, cultural and political topics, creativity workshops, sports events, meetings with prominent people, networking and career fairs, along with an entertainment agenda of film screenings, concerts, plays, and a fashion show.

Grybauskaitė said the large meeting of creative young people was a new opportunity for Lithuanians around the globe to come together in order to strengthen their connections, share knowledge, ideas and creative ideas, reads a press release circulated by the President's press service.

Among ambassadors and speakers of the event are leader of the music band Antis, architect Algirdas Kaušpėdas, fashion designer Juozas Statkevičius, basketball player Jonas Valančiūnas, performer Andrius Mamontovas, stage director Dalia Ibelhauptaitė and businessman Antanas Guoga.

The event is organized by the World Lithuanian Youth Association.
