According to the daily, people who worked in the Ukmergė Court building that was polluted with mercury will now have to take the initial monthly serving of medication, which costs more than 240 litas (EUR 69.6), and are advised to have rehabilitation and follow-up medical treatment, followed by doctor's appointments to check the efficiency of the prescribed medicines.

Lawyer Regina Šaltinienė has expressed doubts about the test results from the lab of the Lithuanian University of Health Sciences, saying: "Two court employees had independent tests abroad and they revealed a considerably larger amount of concentration of mercury than the Kaunas lab did."

Nearly 3kg of mercury were collected in the Ukmergė District Court building on several occasions between last December and March.

The building was closed down due to mercury vapor concentration exceeding the permitted standards thousandfold, all staff was evacuated and moved to the premises of the district police station and the Business and Tourism Center on a temporary basis.
