In January-June, 1,677 people incurred traffic-related injuries, up by 87 as compared with the same period last year.
Drunk drivers caused 118 traffic accidents, which indicates a rise by 12 accidents year-on-year. They claimed 11 lives and left 156 injured.
People driving without a valid driver's license caused 80 accidents, which killed nine people and injured 98.
Among the fatal casualties, 45 were drivers including three motorcyclists, 33 were pedestrians and 30 passengers, as well as eight cyclists and three moped drivers. The fatal victims include 94 men and 27 women of average age of 40 years. The highest number of people killed in a single accident – a driver and two passengers - lost their lives on the highway Vilnius-Kaunas-Klaipėda in Kaunas district on 4 April.
Most accidents were reported on Friday (249), Thursday (216) and Monday (203).
The majority of the traffic accidents were automobile crashes – 587 (down by 2.3 pct year-on-year) and car-pedestrian crashes – 497 (up by 13 pct).
402 accidents were reported in Vilnius county, indicating an increase by 38.1 percent, 224 in Kaunas county (down by 13.9 pct), 159 in Šiauliai county (up by 8.2 pct), 148 in Panevėžys county (up by 4.2 pct) and 98 in Marijampolė county (up by 7.7 pct).
The fewest accidents were registered in counties of Tauragė and Alytus – 50 and 51, respectively.
The highest number of casualties was reported in Vilnius county (31), Kaunas county (18), Panevėžys county (12) and Marijampolė and Utena counties (12 each), while the fewest people were killed in Telšiai county (5).
