International folklore festival to start in Vilnius

International folklore festival "Skamba Skamba Kankliai" starts in Vilnius on Thursday. The traditional festival, held for the last 40 years, will last until Sunday.

Organizers say almost 50 various events are planned during the festival.

Festival guests will have the chance to see performances of not only traditional but also young modern folklore groups from Lithuania and abroad.

Various events will be held in Vilnius squares and courtyards, churches, theaters, and universities.

Folklore groups from Ireland, Belarus, Estonia, Indonesia, Italy, the Republic of Karelia, France, Russia, Ukraine, and the Cape Verde Islands are expected at the festival, organizers say.

"Skamba Skamba Kankliai" has been organized annually since 1972.
