Gintaras Bagdonas, the head of the Lithuanian special mision in Afghanistan, told BNS that the Japanese will leave Ghor in about a month, noting that Japan is not fully leaving Ghor or Afghanistan.

"Japan will proceed with development projects in both Ghor and Afghanistan. There are many projects, for instance, the hospital, reconstruction of which was started by Lithuania, and Japan is continuing it," said the diplomat.

In his words, Japan is coordinating the development cooperation projects from Afghanistan's capital Kabul.

"We are all very grateful to Japan which, working together with the Lithuanian Foreign Ministry, did a great job, providing support, implementing and continuing various projects," Bagdonas said.

In his words, Japan has earmarked about 50 million US dollars in assistance to Ghor.

The European Union flag was also lowered at the PRT camp in Chagcharan on Monday in sign of completing the police mission EUPOL in Ghor.

The Lithuanian officer serving in the EU police mission in Ghor will leave the province by mid-July.

EUPOL's mission to Afghanistan has been extended to 2014.
