Lithuania leads EU statistics of fatal casualties in traffic accidents

Lithuania ranks first in the European Union (EU) in terms of fatal casualties in traffic accidents, shows statistics published by the European Commission (EC) on Tuesday.

The 100 traffic accident victims reported in Lithuania per population of 1 million people is considerably above the EU average of 55. The annual death rate on Lithuanian roads went up by 2 percent, although the EU average dropped by 9 percent.

Many people are killed on roads of Romania and Lithuania's neighboring Poland – 96 and 93 deaths per population of 1 million, respectively.
