Lithuania will be able to use its EU presidency to push for decisions that are important for it and will place a priority on energy, the country's energy minister said on Tuesday.

„We have a great opportunity to put forward proposals and press countries and the European Commission to make decisions. Nine years into its EU membership, Lithuania remains highly dependent in energy terms,“ Jaroslav Neverovic said during a discussion on the government's main objectives and challenges held by the American Chamber of Commerce in Lithuania on Tuesday.

The EU's target is to put an end to energy islands by 2015, the minister said.

„Energy will be a priority. First of all, this is the European internal market. This should enhance security and competitiveness for European consumers,“ he said.

Lithuania will hold the EU's rotating presidency in the second half of this year.
