The Columns of Gediminas, one of the earliest symbols of the Lithuanian state, were painted on both sides of the tombstone in early hours of 17 June. The signs were also discovered on a church that holds services in the Polish language.
Last week, Vilnius police announced detention of a 44-year-old Vilnius resident who could have vandalized the church.
Pilsudski is credited in Poland for his contribution to restoring an independent state of Poland after World War I, but he's a controversial figure in Lithuania as he annexed Vilnius Region from Lithuania in 1922.

Vilnius prosecutors have identified a suspect in desecration of the tombstone marking the place where the heart of interwar Polish leader Jozef Pilsudski and his mother are buried in Rasos Cemetery in Vilnius, Public Relations Division of the Prosecutor General's Office has confirmed to BNS on Monday.
