Guards of the State Border Guard Service's Coast Guard checked ID of the Latvian citizen, 29, who arrived from Kiel, Germany, by ferry. The driver of a BMW 318 with British car plates produced an Indian driver's license. The document raised suspicions and the man was detained.

The Latvian later told border guards the document was forged, he had illegally bought it in England.

A pre-trial investigation into document forgery or disposal of a forged document was launched, and the Latvian citizen was put into custody.
