During a long investigation, the authorities detained couriers of psychotropic substances and individuals directly related with smuggling operations. According to the press release, more than 10 citizens of Lithuania and other countries were arrested in Lithuania, Sweden, and Denmark.

The investigation has direct links to the search carried out by Marijampolė police last December, which resulted in seizure of more than 40 kilograms of methamphetamine from a person's home. The probe revealed that the drugs were intended for the Scandinavian market.

During a series of searches in Vilnius, Kaunas, Marijampolė and Alytus counties, the authorities seized more than 100 kilograms of methamphetamine, firearms, tools and instruments for packing drugs, over 500,000 litas (EUR 145,000) in cash, cargo vehicles for transporting drugs.
