The 11-13 May trip will connect Tibet Squares in Vilnius and Kaunas, drawing the attention of the Lithuanian society to the developments in the Himalayan region, organizers have said.
"Symbolically, 40 years since the death of Romas Kalanta, people still set themselves on fire in Tibet today, and the causes of the sacrifice is painfully similar. Kalanta burned to death after shouting out "Freedom to Lithuania" in a Kaunas square in 1972, while today, about three dozen Tibetans have chosen the sacrifice of fire under the slogan "Freedom to Tibet" in the occupied Tibet and also in India," the Tibet Freedom Support Group said.
On Friday, 11 May, participants of the trip will start pedaling from the Tibet Square in Vilnius, passing the Chinese Embassy, Vingis Park and other parts of Vilnius to reach the location of overnight stay some 30 kilometers away.
On the second day, the trip will last for some 60 kilometers, while the route for the third day will end with the final speech in the Tibet Square in Kaunas.
The last reports about self-immolations in Tibet came a few weeks ago when two young Tibetan men set themselves on fire in southwestern China.
A total of 34 Tibetans including many Buddhist monks attempted self-immolation since the beginning of 2011 in protest of Chinese repressions against their culture. Many of them died of severe burns.
Many Tibetans in China complain of religious persecution and cultural destruction, while China denies any repressions and maintains it is improving lives of Tibetans by way of investment and infrastructure, schools and new housing, also promotion of economic development.
Beijing has repeatedly accused Tibet's spiritual leader Dalai Lama of encouraging people to use self-immolation in an effort to separate the large region in the Himalaya Mountains from China. Dalai Lama has rejected the accusations.
