More Lithuanian children adopted by local families than foreigners for the first time

Last year, Lithuanian families adopted more children than foreigners for the first time in history, the State Child Rights and Adoption Service said.

In 2012, 92 families and six unmarried people from Lithuania adopted 112 children, as compared with 98 children adopted by 70 foreigners and Lithuanian citizens living abroad.

In earlier years, foreigners accounted for more adoptions from Lithuania than the country's citizens.
