In 2012, the office examined 203 cases of discrimination including 189 on the grounds of complaints filed by people while 14 probes were opened at the office's initiative.
Complaints about gender discrimination (63) accounted for 31.5 percent of all complaints, while 30 were in connection to social status and 26 to age.
Among other grounds for discrimination, there were 18 instances to do with disability, eight with nationality, six with language, six with religion, four with ethnicity, two with sexual orientation, and one with beliefs.
As before, the majority of discrimination complaints come from urban residents – in 2012, 68 percent of the motions came from Vilnius and 16 percent from Kaunas.
The majority of the complaints about possible violations had to do with labor relations (78). Discrimination complaints made half of all investigations, 38 were about operation of governmental institutions, and 32 about goods and services.
