Ramūnas Matonis, spokesman for the Police Department, told BNS on Thursday the police received a report at around 10 AM that a group of Polish citizens were exploding squibs at a local gas station and painting graffiti on its walls.
Three cars were detained in the resort of Palanga and 13 Polish citizens were taken to a police station.
Matonis said the Police Department had received information that around 1,500 Polish football fans might travel via Lithuania and 300 of them might be aggressive.
"The Poles are executing control at the border. They do not allow some people in. Since last night, police in Alytus and Marijampolė, southern Lithuania, have joined border guards and customs officers checking vehicles. They have found several prohibited items, including metal rods, tear gas, and paint," Matonis told BNS.
