Based on preliminary data on the Population and Foreigners Registrars, 12,400 Russian, 5,000 Belorussian and 2,700 Ukrainian citizens currently live in Lithuania. Among the European Union member states' nationals, most are Polish, 512, and Germans, 418. In total, 24,400 EU citizens currently reside in Lithuania.
Almost 1,900 nationals of Asian states also live in Lithuania, including 390 Israelis, 320 Chinese and 280 Kazakh citizens. The number of Asian residents increased by 5,4 percent last year.
According to the Migration Department, citizens of African states residing in Lithuania numbered 198, including 58 Nigerians, 57 Egyptians and 16 Tunisian citizens.
In all, nationals of 117 foreign states currently live in the country, making up 0.98 percent of Lithuania's population. The number increased by 4.7 percent in 2011. Almost three fourths of foreigners live in Vilnius, Kaunas, Klaipėda, Šiauliai and Visaginas.
There are also 4,300 stateless people in Lithuania. Their number has dropped by almost 50 percent over the last five years.
