Butkevicius planned to travel to Gran Canaria through Frankfurt.
The flight from Vilnius to Frankfurt, initially scheduled for 2:50 pm, has been postponed since Lufthansa’s flight from Frankfurt to Vilnius has been cancelled due to the strike.
“Lufthansa has been hit by a strike hence his [Prime Minister’s] flight has been postponed. I don’t know what will happen next; now we are trying to find out whether it will be possible to find another flight on Thursday. Prime Minister is currently staying at the airport,” Butkevicius’ spokeswoman, Evelina Lazdauskiene, told BNS.
The Prime Minister planned to take a week-long vacation on Thursday after marking 100 days of the government’s term in office.
Butkevicius and his wife were to fly to Gran Canaria in the Spanish archipelago, his office said earlier on Thursday.
The Prime Minister will be away until Mar. 29. He will be substituted by Finance Minister Rimantas Sadzius during his absence.
