Lithuania's President Dalia Grybauskaitė signed a decree on Thursday, turning to the Judicial Council for advice on dismissal of Viederis at his own request.
The judge has released from courtroom Givi Gordeladze, a Russian citizen of Georgian decent who was detained in Vilnius in an Europol operation last week. Gordeladze has gone missing ever since.
Prosecutors had asked the court to arrest Gordeladze, but Viederis overruled the plea to arrest the mobster wanted across the European Union.
Viederis released Gordeladze, 65, on a bail of 30,000 litas (EUR 8,700) due to the defendant's frail health and old age, ordering him to stay home between 10 PM and 6 AM, delfi.lt news portal said.
After the ruling, prosecutors immediately filed a complaint with another court of higher instance, which immediately annulled Viederis' ruling and ordered that Gordeladze be arrested.
Gordeladze is wanted across the EU and his whereabouts in Lithuania remain unknown.
