"A pre-trial investigation has been launched upon receipt of information that Vilnius City Vice-Mayor R.A. took a bribe worth over 250 minimum subsistence levels," the service said in a statement.
It also says the bribe was accepted in exchange for a promise to influence municipal staff so that they made a favorable decision in a public tender for services worth LTL 8 million (EUR 2.32 million).
250 minimum subsistence levels are equal to LTL 32,500 (EUR 9,400).
The pre-trial investigation was launched based on the articles of the Penal Code, stipulating criminal responsibility for bribery and trade in influence. The latter stipulates prison terms of 2-8 years.
Adomavičius is currently running for parliament and has legal immunity from prosecution. He is number 48 on the Social Democratic Party's list and is also a candidate in Lazdynai single-member constituency.
Earlier in the day, Vilnius enterprise Vilniaus Vandenys (Vilnius Waters) confirmed that SIS officers in charge of corruption cases visited the company offices on Thursday.
"They paid a visit yesterday, that's true. There were no arrests," Eglė Rimkutė, spokeswoman for Vilniaus Vandenys, told BNS. In her words, all company managers were at work on Friday.
The investigation is controlled by prosecutors from the Organized Crimes and Corruption Investigation Division of Vilnius Regional Prosecutor's Office.
