"Yes, we have just learned that Tymoshenko is not coming due to mother's illness," Viktorija Bražiūnaitė, one of the organizers of the event, told BNS on Monday.

A number of top-ranking guests are expected at the event, including former US presidential candidate John McCain, one of Russia's opposition leaders Boris Nemtsov, Belorussian opposition leader Anatoly Lebedko and representatives of other countries.

Lithuania will be represented by Parliamentary Speaker Irena Degutienė, Foreign Minister Audronius Ažubalis, parliamentary Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Emanuelis Zingeris, MEP Vytautas Landsbergis and others.

Invitations to the Vilnius event were sent to European Parliament President Jerzy Buzek, parliamentary speakers of Georgia, Ukraine and Moldova, leader of Russia's Choice movement Vladimir Ryzhkov. However, they said they would not be able to attend.

The conference is scheduled for 3 May, the Constitution Day celebrated in Lithuania and Poland.
