Behind the scenes of ambassadorial appointments: Seimas looking for clarification on continuing questioning at the Presidential Palace

With over a year passing with no ambassador appointed to head the Lithuanian representation to the European Union, Minister of Foreign Affairs Gabrielius Landsbergis declared that candidates are deterred by “questioning” at the Presidential Palace where diplomats supposedly face questions on their links to politicians. Colleagues in G. Landsbergis’ party are looking to launch an initiative to demand for President Gitanas Nausėda’s advisor to come to the Seimas to offer clarification. The Presidential Palace urges to not exaggerate the role of advisors and blames the Conservatives’ stubbornness for the non-appointment of an ambassador.
