Egidijus Bieliūnas proposed as EU General Court judge

Egidijus Bieliūnas, a judge of the Constitutional Court of Lithuania, is proposed as a judge of the EU General Court for a six-year term.

The Government of Lithuanian backed the candidate on Wednesday, Prime Minister Algirdas Butkevičius told journalists after a Cabinet meeting.

Following presidential approval, consultations with the Seimas will be held. Following these procedures and before member states unanimously appoint the judge, the candidate will be evaluated by a special committee set up based on EU law.

The committee has recently rejected another candidate proposed by Lithuania, Asta Dambrauskaitė.
